Snow Kittens
Kurogane rolled a ball of snow into place, patting it to the thicker body. Realizing it looked nothing like it should, he frowned. Snow was gently falling as a light breeze past by. He shivered, continuing his work with determination. He wrapped a scarf around the bottom of the uppermost sphere.
Snow crunched under approaching feet, another body joining him.
“What ‘cha makin’, Kuro-Chan? Is that a snowman?”
Kurogane smirked, grabbing six twigs and arranging them on the face like cat whiskers. He backed up to view his masterpiece. His fingers folded to capture Fai next to the snow-cat. “Perfect.”
Love Origami
Kurogane groaned; it had been three weeks since he finally - finally - made it home from what seemed like the never-ending quest for feathers, of all things. He should be happy, Fai had even agreed to stay with him - but that was exactly the problem.
A sound similar to breaking glass rang outside. The dim skies outside told him it was too early to even guess. Following soon after were screeches from his lover and princess. He rose to his feet, sore from calming the rivals yesterday.
This, he decided, was the last time he got himself involved in a love-triangle.
Everyday
It was Fai’s first day of work. He had prepared for this day a long time. Rushing into his new workspace, he glanced around. The first thing he noticed was a breath-taking set of crimson eyes.
He didn’t even know the other’s name, obviously, but something just felt right. He immediately ran up to the unknown person and pulled up a chair. “It’s my first day. What’s your name, stranger?”
The dark haired man looked over with a glare. “Kurogane,” he grumbled.
“I’m Fai,” he retorted, pointing to himself while grinning with a slight blush. “Nice to meet you, Kuro-Pon.”
Life After Death - Spoilers
“You should have let me die...” Fai reminisced, strumming a thumb on his wrist trying to find a pulse. His lips thinned, pressing his thumb desperately for a pulse.
Scarlet eyes watched steadily from a safe distance away, making sure Fai didn’t do anything unreasonable. “You did die, moron.”
Fai’s blue eye glared skeptically. “That’s not funny,” he hissed.
“You died. You’re new - reborn,” Kurogane explained, words whispered soft and light in the air.
‘A you I can’t have,’ Kurogane corrected, standing up to leave. ‘And a you that doesn’t want me,’ he added solemnly, closing the door behind him.
Awkward Silence Served with Tea
It was something Kurogane wished his could go back in time and obliterate from the world. He dug his face in his palms with a vicious growl. Syaoran, in shock, smiled. He wouldn’t know what else to do anyways. Sakura blushed, glancing at Fai quizzically. The gloop that was considered, ‘food,’ fell off Fai’s spoon as he smiled at the ninja without a word.
“Kuro-Daddy!” Mokona cheered. “Kuro-Daddy!”
“Now, now Mokona, Kuro-Puu is just beginning to cope with being a daddy.”
Syaoran smiled awkwardly. “Umm… He wasn’t referring to me when he said, ‘Listen to your mother, son!’ …right, Fai-San?”
Scissors - Spoilers
“You’re growing your hair out?” Kurogane asked, puzzled, as he noticed one day.
Fai neither smiled, nor frowned, nor gave an annoyed grin. “Yes. I have a reason to live now, remember? I cut it for a reason and now I have a reason to grow it out again.”
“Nnn.” Fai had answered the question, as ambiguous as the answer was. Kurogane crossed his arms. “In Nihon, you cut your hair after heart-break.”
A silence lingered. Fai smiled bitterly, a smile sharp and twisted that said, ‘Get out now.’
Kurogane left. A blue eye hazed up. He reached up to his hair and stroked it between his fingers.
“I have no reason to cut my hair anymore…”
Drinking Games
“What’s wrong, Kuro-Kuro? Get too black?” Fai teased, poking the ninja as he came to.
A screech throbbed in Kurogane’s head immediately. “Damn mage… You didn’t even drink the liquor last night…did you?” He groaned, cradling his forehead with a palm.
“Of course I did, Kuro-Wan,” Fai sighed, “We were having a drinking contest, after all.”
“You drank water or something!” Kurogane accused. He wouldn’t accept defeat.
Fai smiled weakly, pressing his lips against Kurogane’s. The taste was sweet and bitter, just like the alcohol. He pulled back with hazy eyes. Kurogane licked his lips, indulging in the lingering taste.
“Alright, we’re going to do this the right way,” Fai sighed, pushing a bottle in Kurogane’s direction. With a wink, he grinned. “Winner gets to top.”
Gingerbread Dreams
Fai was hunched over the table when Kurogane entered the room. He stopped, wondering what the blond man could be doing by himself at this time at night.
“You.” Fai didn’t respond so Kurogane poked him. “What the Hell are you doing?”
Bright blue eyes glanced up as Fai flipped back his blond hair. “Making a gingerbread house. Tomorrow’s Christmas day and I think we should we should have one!”
Kurogane glared, now at Fai’s work-in-progress. What confronted him was something he couldn’t begin to fathom. “Wh-What the HELL is THAT?!” he barked.
“Well, the two little gingerbreads are Syaoran-Kun and Sakura-Chan. This white gumdrop is Mokona. And these gingerbreads here…are Mommy and Daddy under the mistletoe!”
Give and Take
Kurogane frowned in disapproval. “No.” End of discussion.
“But Kuro-Chaaaaaaaaaaaan!” Fai protested. Still, the ninja was steadfast in his decision and only glared. “I think you’d look sexier.”
“No.”
Fai sighed, almost giving up hope. He turned around and smiled amicably, like he was his friend or something. “If you shave your facial hair, I’ll get a Brazilian wax-job.”
For a moment, Kurogane faltered. Hair was a sign of manliness and Kurogane knew he should have held his pride resolute. But when Fai offered something like that, it was hard not to just rush into the bathroom for the razorblade.
Over the Hill
Fai grinned, looking at the cake Sakura and Syaoran had prepared for him. He happily skipped to the head seat of the table and promptly plopped down with a happy smile. Kurogane was mumbling something about it being wrong for men to have pink cakes as Mokona sang a tune.
“Happy birthday, Fai-San!” the children-manju chorus sang in unison.
“’Birthday,” Kurogane grumbled with a blush. “How old does this make you?”
Fai’s smile thinned out. “Now, now, a great magician never gives out his tricks.”
Kurogane noted a mental smirk of amusement. That’s not what Fai was saying last night.
White Lies - Spoilers
It felt different being a vampire. It was like his senses were sharpened; let alone a few perspective issues due to his missing eye. Even the thought of magic no longer running through his veins felt unusual. And then there was the whole feeding issue…
He felt at ease, though, in certain ways. It was up to him if he chose to feed or not and Kurogane couldn’t change that.
He clenched his eyes, feeling the ninja enter the room. That was something else - in recent times he’d learn to feel not only with his mind, but with his body, whenever Kurogane was around. Crimson eyes settled but the man soon exited the room. He probably thought Fai would not want his company. Limply, the vampire fell to the floor with a weak, uneasy smile.
‘You big liar…’
What I Wouldn't Give...
Fai wondered how long it had been since he’d been a vampire. It was…probably a week. How long would it be until he had to feed? Until he collapsed from pure exhaustion? Until he could just shrug all of this away and pretend it never happened?
Kurogane entered the room, not bothering to knock. He had that right, Fai supposed. After all, it was Kurogane’s life essence he’d have to feed on.
“Eat,” the ninja instructed, slitting his wrist with a pocket knife the blond noticed he’d been carrying around recently. Fai made no movement and the blood dripping slow, wet, hot, and thick onto his face.
“Are you going to force me?”
“No.”
Fai sat upright. He didn’t like it when Kurogane forced him into things. He caressed the man’s wrist gently, preparing to sink his fangs in. Maybe in another lifetime, or another, or after his eye was recovered he could kiss this wrist. But for now, he would feed. Because that’s what Kurogane wished for.
