a real update!

Crazy crazy couple of weeks, but today was a Very Good Day. ^_^

So on Thursday, I was looking over the commencement speeches, and everyone's were all kinda...eh. Priya and Kitty and I bitched about them, among other things (mmm, I'm glad for the girl-talk get together and plain hangout, I haven't seen much of anyone lately), and I decided I wanted to write one that was better, or at least different because the current choices were eh. So I went over to Esteban's for Mixbowl, where Adele was working on thesis and Kacie was hanging out, and we came up with all sorts of lovely ideas about our time at Scripps to satirize and poke at. LHC things like planning Mudd weddings, finishing school, Foucault as the new F-word....we had so many ideas I was confident of writing something, and since I was already up, I continued staying up to 4am just writing it. It was lovely, the smart-assery just flowing from my fingertips. ^_^ People liked it on the Friday "audition," and the voting is all this week. Poke me if you want to see a copy of my speech.

This past weekend was spent on a few things: an AASU empowerment workshop, shopping and cooking for the sponsors hometreat, and putting together uNbound, the AASU publication. My goodness, this time people were sending in articles right down to the wire, so we were stuck in publication until 6am Monday morning. -_- So I skipped class and took a nap.

Then, before I go off to choir I decide, hey, I should check to see when Breakthrough applications are due, since I got a brochure a month ago when I stopped by the Pomona job fair. And I look, and lo and behold it is due on Monday March 6. Watch me spaz, and decide, hey, I'm gonna look at that app and do my best to submit it on time. 5pm PST. I logged on at 4:15pm. So I wrote and looked up stuff like mad (I used some synopses from teaching Chinese sophomore year for ideas)and submitted my application at 7:25. Lucky me, the application being already open could be submitted, since the page it took me to afterwards said that applications were closed as of 7pm. O.O;; Whoo.

Then I decided to cook. ^_^ Had leftover pork and vegan dumpling fillers, so I made dumplings (yay, Erik and Rachel and Esteban and Kacie stopped by to make dumplings) while Rachel cooked veggies, and we ate in the hallway. We made so many dumplings I was offering them to everyone I knew who passed by us in the hall outside the kitchen. Yumm.

Today I got up early enough to write my review of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater show I went to with Esteban two Fridays ago. Then sitting in Seal Court trying to sell my knit wares. What is up with this? The weather is all cold and windy, and I didn't sell a single hat or scarf. >.- Hopefully the next one will be better advertised.

Anyhoo, took off in the middle for dance class. That class is fun, but so hard for me sometimes because I don't have lots and lots of imagination for movement, and also it takes me a long time to learn patterns with my body. But today was fun, only eight of us showed up, so we did improv. Moved around round robin where we copied each others' movement before passing on the turn, and then we did a thing where it was total improv. Professor Abrams started with a movement, and she passed on the energy to the next. Originally we just went in circle order, but then I broke ranks and 'tossed' my energy across to Yuriko, hee. Then we were going all over the place, at times flowy, sometimes working it like a ball or a scarf. One girl was a laugh, she was tossed a 'ball,' let it go and came back with a scathing "I can't believe you threw it so hard and look, now I have to chase after it" look. Heheheh. It kept going until two people started doing a duet thing, and Professor Abrams joined in, and the beat picked up and all of us ended up dancing around like fools, it was awesome fun.

We ended with the best thing ever: massage! Three groups of three, each gal got to be massaged by two people for 10 whole minutes. o.o! it was SOOOOOOO nice. Full body massage, head down to my toes. Yuriko's really good at it, because apparently she does track and they have to learn all about muscles for warmups and whatnot. And it's very relaxing to be the one doing the massage too. I used what I'd learned from bagua about foot massage, since I remember we always started with one every class. Happy feet mean happy you, since they support you.

Afterwards, rest of craft fair, and Priya took me to pick up uNbound, which shall be distributed tomorrow. It's a really good issue, if I do say so myself. Robin, Joanne and I certainly worked our asses off for it to be so.

Went to visit Priya, and we ended up watching the pilot for Due South. OMG. Now I know why Erika and Adele were always squeeing about it. It's SO funny, and cracktastic. Ray and his blinding jackets! Diefenbaker! Fraser, the perfect straight man in any situation! The hunter guy (thought he was a caribou)! Priya's going to find more episodes, and then I shall steal them from her because I have my shiny big hard drive to stick them on.

Then after dinner and whatnot (mmm, leftover dumplings, sprouts and napa cabbage) I went to Esteban's improv acting finale/performance. Wow, laugh riot, I loved it. They were all so funny, I can't believe most of them had never had acting experience, and after this class, wow. I never knew improv starts off so structured. But way cool. I'm really glad I went.
