i'm pretty sure that i've never been to a concert where so few people danced and so many people were drunk. drinking has never had this effect on me, especially at a concert. these people were sedate and painfully still. i mean, even if i was super drunk, i moved a little even if it was a completely involuntary wobble. but fear not, i managed to be standing behind the only other person in the entire venue who was dancing beside me. he was a leather jacket boy. you know the type. the boys for whom leather jackets are an accessory. the only accessory. the kind where you look at them and something just doesn't seem right. after you ponder for a while, you realize it's the leather jacket. some people just cannot and should not wear leather jackets. it just doesn't work.
initially, this boy suffered from a hideous case of high hat hand. his only dancing, or movement whatsoever consisted of raising his hand (the one not holding a drink, presumably) to hit a virtual high hat that was floating somewhere above his head. remarkably, he managed to be on beat the majority of the time. however, in cocking his imaginary drumstick, he came dangerously close to hitting my head on numerous occasions. as he consumed more liquor, the faux drum playing became more intense. soon it evolved into a severe case of snare simulation (i think this was when he put his drink into the other hand). being that he was able to maintain a motion that at least suggested the beat, one might think that he possessed even an inkling of rhythm. if you were led to believe this, you would be wrong. a few songs (and a few drinks)later, he started dancing. this is when it progressed into an all out game of dodge the drunkard. contrary to your assumptions, this game requires much more skill than you would believe. especially when you're contending with leather jacket boy. he managed to generate enough heat to actually fog up his quasi rivers cuomo glasses and exude a noticeable odor.
modest mouse played wonderfully, though. mostly songs from the newest album. it sounded exquisite.
