Movies, movies, movies :]

Yeah, I don't know what it is about having cash flow, but I have once again been bitten by the movie bug. I ended up watching a few movies. I didn't watch them all in the same day or anything. I'm not that big a freak, but I've been checking out the movies and I can't say I haven't seen any crappy ones, either. For anyone who wants to know what to expect, click under the cut. No worries, though. I'm not a spoiler ;]

The Brave One...
Jody Foster was amazing in this movie! I just loved it ^-^ There was something about it that was slightly different from all the other revenge movies I've seen. Anyone who's seen the previews knows she running around with a gun shootin' people so that's hardly a spoiler. Still, there's one moment in the movie where you're watching her and it's like you finally understand what it must feel like to be afraid of everything. The ending isn't quite what I expected, so I got a real kick out of that. If you feel like watching something with drama, action, and retribution, then this flick is a very nice combo.

Shoot'em Up...
Now don't get me wrong. I really liked Shoot'em Up. I heard the names Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, and Monica Belluci and I was sold. However, for anyone who has no idea what they're walking into and think they're going in to see a bang-bang action flick, well you're right--and you're wrong.  I'm not sure if Shoot'em Up is based on a graphic novel, but that's how it plays out. It's like a comic book come to life. Literally. Lots of amazing stunts, outrageous scenes, and a whole lotta gunfire. No, seriously! Lots and lots of gunfire--and yes, there's the whole carrot thing. Still, Shoot'em Up is pretty cohesive, I would say that if you liked Sin City, then you're probably gonna like this movie. If you didn't like Sin City, then I'd say you're chances of liking this movie are about 50/50.

Be warned, Shoot'em Up is not a 'deep' movie. You want deep? Watch The Brave One or 3:10 to Yuma. Shoot'em Up isn't deep, its non-stop action and biting graphic novel humor. It's what Ultra Violet could have been, but wasn't.  *sigh* I'm still crying over that one...

3:10 to Yuma...
My sis and I watched this one a couple of days ago. I didn't feel like goin to the movies by myself that night and I convinced my sis to go with me. I figured, Christian Bale and Russel Crowe, what girl wouldn't want to go? I know there's a lot of people out there who aren't Russel Crowe fans. I had to listen to that conversation from several people around me as we waited to be seated for the movie. *shakes head* Why they even bothered to buy tickets to a movie they had already decided they were goin to hate, I'll never know. Anyway, I don't give a flying fart what or who the actor does, if the movie is good, then that is all that matters.

Now, why did I want to see a western? Well, honestly, I like both Christian Bale and Russel Crowe. They are fantastic actors and I can't really recall seeing a bad movie from either of them in a long while. So I guess I went on faith that it wasn't going to suck horribly. It paid off, I thought the movie was great and so did the losers that were grumbling about it earlier.

You should see the cameos in this flick! I don't have a working tv at the moment or cable so I haven't seen the previews on tv, but here's who you will be seeing the movie...
Peter Fonda: Easy Rider, Ulee's Gold, The Tempest, more recently Ghostrider and Wildhogs
Alan Tudyk: Wash from Firefly, I Robot, A Knight's Tale
Gretchen Moll: The Shape of Things & The 13th Floor
Luke Wilson: Royal Tanenbaums, Charlie's Angels, Rushmore, Old School, Alex & Emma, My Super Ex GF
Ben Foster: X3, The Punisher, Hostage, Big Trouble, and the movie I'm dying to see--30 Days of Night ^-^

I'm still not sure what made 3:10 to Yuma a movie great. I don't know if it was because the actors were just so good, or maybe because the script and story just really flowed. The gunfight at the end of the movie is pretty damn awesome. The best part about the movie was how the two main characters sort of bonded, despite the fact that one was being escorted to the prison train to Yuma and the other was probably gonna get shot for doing so. The little truths that tumbled out of them at just the right moments just made me go, "Damn!" If you like your action styled with western moves, this is your flick :]
