Whee! Tornado season has started. Earlier today a tornado went through Tonganoxie. There was tennis ball sized hail in Basehor (pronounced base-or, though it does make you wonder if the town originally started as a bordello or the red light district outside an old army base). They think multiple small funnels or several microbursts may have hit Lawrence-they have widespread, extensive damage throughout the city, the KU campus is closed due to windows being blown out and an AC unit was tossed off the roof of Templin Hall (one of the dorms on The Hill).
We had tornado sirens go off earlier today, and they just went off again. Baseball sized hail is coming down to the west of us, but it looks like the storm will pass to the north and we'll miss that particular excitement. My car and the roof of my house are very happy to not be in the line of fire, even though I'd kind of like to see it.
The Vile and Evil Spawn made it to San Diego last night. They are a couple days ahead of schedule, because they drove straight through rather than do some sightseeing along the way. The weather wasn't very co-operative. They drove through rain all across Kansas, Colorado, and New Mexico, and fishtailed their way though the snow in Arizona. They couldn't see the Petrified Forest or the Painted Desert because it was covered in snow. They didn't mention whether they got out of the car to stand on a corner in Winslow, Arizona or not. I doubt it was such a fine sight to see, given the visibility was almost nil due to the snow flurries.
