Aka - why I go by "Mo"
I got some escrow and title papers for the hunk o' land in the middle of nowhere the spouse bought. (Okay, it's very pretty, on a huge lake that is part of a wildlife preserve, and has gorgeous views of the mountains - but? No electricty, water, sewer1.) So I am looking through all the paperwork -which, laid end-to-end, would cover the acreage completely - and it says, on the first page, in bold "DOCUMENTS MUST BE SIGNED EXACTLY AS NAME APPEARS."
Which is fine, except my name is spelled 3 different ways, all of them incorrect. Marureen, Mareen and Marueen. I doubt anyone but me would notice, and it's not like anyone (including me) can read my handwriting anyway2. But I can also see some clerk somewhere fussing about the whole thing at an inopportune time.
1. And I think I might have been teasing the spouse a bit hard about his plans for said land, because the other day someone asked him what kind of house he was going to build and he glanced sideways at me and said: "A concrete bunker. With machine gun slits."
2. My mother, off in heaven or on the Great Wheel or wherever good souls go, took great pride in her painstaking calligraphy, and I SWEAR I can hear her "tsking" over my shoulder when I write.
