Airport

Hey, did you know that the current Homeland Security Threat Level is ORANGE?  Has it ever been anything other than orange in recent memory, I wonder?  Well I have a canned voice that reminds me of our current threat status every fifteen minutes, so I am on top of things.  I'm at the airport getting ready to take a mini-break to San Francisco after my work travel.

Today was our last day of court.  We only had two days this sitting, and a lot of our cases went to briefs, which meant that there was no argument.  We arrived on Wednesday to unpack all the documents and prepare for the next two days.  Yesterday after the morning argument we did other things like review petitions that had come in, check things for the judge as she reviewed cases, etc.  And there were the ever-important ID badges to acquire.  I am not required to show any ID at our home duty station but when we come to the mothership apparently I need *two* pieces of photo ID.  One of them lets me in to the building, into chambers, and (I know you are jealous of this one) into the library after hours.  The court library was actually a pleasant, sunny place, despite its similarity to a law school.  I did some work down there when my co-worker was using the computer in our shared office.  Every one is really friendly and helpful at the courthouse and our usual hotel, which makes things go smoothly.

Still haven't explored much more of downtown Cincinnati other than the four block radius that involves hotel, work, surrounding restaurants, etc.  There were some clerks who drove, so I was hoping we could convince them to get out into a different neighborhood, but instead they opted for maximizing the drinking opportunities closer to home.  :)

Usually paying for internet access makes me feel like a broken human being but my flight is delayed, I had an email I *had* to send before close of business today, and Delta has a nice little laptop recharging station where you can sit and type, so it's not that bad.

J is meeting me in San Francisco, which is very exciting.  I am flying back home on election day.  Don't worry, I already early voted.  Since I can't really do anything to affect the outcome of the election, other than send out positive vibes into the universe, I guess it doesn't really matter that I will spend most of the big day in the air.  I will get in to Atlanta right when the East Coast polls close, so I hope to spend some touching moments with fellow Obama supporters clustered around the airport TVs that blare CNN all the time while I wait for my flight home.  Fingers crossed!
