Holy shit, *that's* over with

I have been going non-stop since Thursday. What's today? Sunday? GAH. This is the first calm moment I've had.

Thursday: NINE hours of moving, 3 hours over the moving quote, because four floors and an elevator didn't help. The guys moving took FOREVER even though they were literally hustling to get stuff moved. We don't even have a couch, and I got rid of most of the furniture! Big things moved: an IKEA entertainment center, a credenza, a 40-inch LCD TV, a 27-inch CRT TV, and Grandma's 1948 Admiral TV. That was it. The rest was boxes. I sold more than half of my DVD collection and a bunch of books. It still took forever to move everything even though we were bringing stuff down to the end of the hall so they could pack it into the elevator. If we hadn't of helped we never would have gotten done. I thought hiring movers was supposed to be easier! It was also really damn expensive. Like $1000 expensive! This is why I've always moved myself in the past.

Friday: Some minor unpacking in new place, then back to old place to pack up stuff I didn't want the movers to touch, like my subwoofer, computer, glass tops for a TV and component stand, and other stuff. Took all day.

Saturday: Seven hours of cleaning the old place from top to bottom. Jebus. Packing up and moving out garbage and small leftover crap.

Sunday: Back to old place for final vacuuming, and walk-through. Stop at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for stuff, stop at Wal Mart and Petco. Stop at supermarket for a few things to eat. Takes 5 hours.

Monday: Go change address on license and registration, which need to be done in person with proof of residency and all this other shit. In NY I did it online and they sent me a new license in the mail. Also want to go to Homegoods to look at cute decorating thing because I love Homegoods.

I am covered in bruises...all over my arms, my legs, and even my stomach from where I was lifting boxes (I am quite a sturdy gal with a fair amount of muscle). My fingers are cut up from handling tape and cardboard and from packing in general. I am super dehydrated still. My feet hurt and I broke my damn middle toenail *again*, which always happens when I'm doing stuff on my feet for long periods. The first time it broke was in Vancouver when I was on vacation in 2006. It was never the same after that hours-long walk around Stanley Park, LOL.

It's really, really quiet here. You can't hear anything, even from upstairs (we're on the second floor). We face a large open field. There are no screaming children or thumping music or vibrating floors or wafting cigarette smoke into the windows. *deep breath* Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

The place is a mess and I am behind on what's happening with everyone here. I missed the premiere of Elementary and some other stuff I wanted to see because I was too exhausted to get the cable set up. I'll catch up with On Demand. But we're moved, and I told my girlfriend she needs to stay at her job for the next 20 years because I do NOT want to do this again in the near future.

Now I have to unpack...

elementary, personal ramblings, chicagoland, the big move 4, vancouver
