I'm going to respond to everyone's well-wishes on my job predicament, but for now I wanted to say that my "career counseling" went better than I thought.
I actually sat and talked with the counselor for over an hour and a half. I feel better.
Some things I learned:
- I signed up for these online tutorials that can give you a basic background in certain software. I'm woefully uneducated on certain software because I basically sat at my last job for six years and learned nothing
- These tutorials, on software like Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InCopy, gave me some hope
- When my COBRA healthcare runs out from my old job (in like two months) I can pick up NY-sponsored medical insurance for low cost
- I qualify for 93 weeks of unemployment benefits
- My counselor gave me great tips for tweaking my resume (for like the seventh time)
After my meeting my counselor also mentioned I could look up software books in the library, and when I expressed my frustration at trying to find out exactly where the heck it was, she literally pointed out the window, LOL. So I went and signed up for my Yonkers Public Library card today too.
I also heard that my old job had a third round of layoffs yesterday. One of my good friends got sacked.
