My thoughts on X-Files: I Want To Believe

Jul 26, 2008 12:13

Obviously I'm going to put everything under a cut, because I'd like to talk at length about the film. When you see the film, come back here to read my thoughts.

I also disliked the homophobic aspect in that they got XZibit to snidely say that line about the marriage. Also...if they are Russian nationals, or even immigrants, can they get a civil ceremony?

Did you get the impression that Mulder could care less if Scully stayed with him or went? That was my feeling.

Yes, that's what I felt too, and why I thought their scenes were entirely OOC. If they were "in love" and living together after all these years, why would he dismiss her so easily over a pedophile priest? Awful.

Why didn't the FBI arrest him years ago by following her home from work? Why wasn't she wanted as well? Why is Skinner still alive and not 6 feet under because of death by alien? What happened to the aliens?I want to think that when Scully first opened the gate to their house, that it was wired for security. It seems like she should have been wanted, if only for aiding and abetting a federal criminal. Do you mean why Skinner isn't dead because of Krycek's nanobots? I dunno. Aliens! In 2010, the end of the world, right? ( ... )

I'll comment more later but I just wanted to say that I was disappointed. It was depressing, convoluted and just not fun in any sense of the word. I couldn't tell you the order in which things happened either. It should have been so much better. It needed a better story, better script... Lots of things wrong with it. I took the afternoon off from work to see it. Unfortunately it very disappointing.

I was hoping it would be fun too, in the way like the first film had serious drama but also had lighthearted Mulder/Scully moments.

Yes, lots of things wrong with it. Damn, I wish it were better.

When I heard NL wouldn't be in the film, I decided not to go see it. Now I've read your comments, and discovered the film is just as bad as I expected, I won't be buying the DVD either (especially if there is so little Skinner in it). Thank-you for your review :-) It's confirmed what I expected (not having read any spoilers) to be produced by CC (given the mess he made of the TV series).

I cheered when Skinner came on the screen, I can tell you that. It was a nice surprise!

It's funny; I have the limited-edition VHS set of the first movie, the poster, all the magazines, the book, the theatre standee (!) and the DVD. I can't even be arsed to save the TV Guide with the two of them on the cover.

What boggles my mind is that after all these years, this is what they come up with? It was just terrible -- but then, now I can see why it took such a short amount of time to film.

Quite. It's not as if follow-ups *have* to be bad. I've got a treasured VHS tape of The Man From UNCLE reunion show. I think it was about 15 years after the series - Lazenby makes a cameo appearance as James Bond and the whole thing is very funny. It's not played for laughs but they're there, if you see what I mean. I adore it *g* It's a shame CC takes himself so seriously when he really doesn't seem to know anything about what people want ( ... )

My plans to see it today were sidelined by the Migraine of Doom but the more spoilers I read, the more I feel like going to see it will be a Grim Chore instead of a fun time.

Child-molesting, self-castrating, eye-bleeding Catholic priest = whyyy.

I haven't checked my Flist yet from over the weekend, but did you get around to seeing it yet? I'm looking forward to your deconstruction.

I finally saw it yesterday! I still haven't put up the detailed reaction post I want to, though - I needed some processing time.

I'm actually glad I was spoiled for the movie, because I was prepared to hate it - and worried that I would. So it was a really pleasant surprise that I found things to like about it. I think it was an advantage, going in with low expectations.

I did have some issues with things: I think everyone did. More later; my thoughts are still churning.

I have not seen it yet, but it sounds like a bit of a mess.
I am going to see it later this week. I will let you know what I think of it.
