The Wire -- one left to go

Sunday's ep of The Wire: Good LAWD, David Simon, why not tear my heart out with a SPOON? It would hurt less. And yes, soundbitesnyc, I was crying as soon as Bubbs held up his anniversary chip and pretty much didn't stop until the freakin' end.

"How's mah hair, man?"
"Looks good, girl."

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! It's like some sinister plot to kill everyone I love on the show. Christ, all they have to do is have Bunk break up a bar fight or something and get shot, and then I WILL HUNT DAVID SIMON DOWN. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeit. Oh, and why did he have to give me that subsconscious visual of Dukie walking into the A-rabber's hangout? Don't make me imagine him as a dope addict, Simon!!! Dammit! Also, I don't think Snoop would have been that stupid. Think Chris is going to be upset she got killed?

Argh, my heart was tearing in two over this whole episode. I even started crying when Kima walked into Daniels' office to rat out McNutty. That's some bad shit right there...methinks the whole bust is going tits up because of the illegal wire tap. Chris won't get off, but Marlo, Monk, and Cheese will, I bet.

I admit I wasn't actually following what Daniels and Rhonda were up to with the file and the calling of the cell phone that was in evidence. All I know is that whatever happened wasn't good. Can anyone explain it better? Perhaps I didn't pay attention because I was crying too much.

Now I have a feeling that Simon is going to leave us in typical Wire style for the final episode, that is, bleak. How are they going to tie up the myriad loose ends? There is so much more left to explore and discover.

If Marlo and Co. do wind up behind bars in the finale (which I don't think is gonna happen; I think the finale will be all about the staus quo), here's how I would write The Wire 2.0:

At the very end of the show, we see Marlo and Co. stuck in prison for the drug trafficking and conspiracy. A year later, Avon Barksdale makes parole and is welcomed back into the Western with open arms. He connects with The Greek and whoever is left from the Co-Op, and business is back.

Then a little hopper by the name of Kenard grows up hard and fast, and based on his infamy, gets noticed by the Barksdale crew. He runs the Western corners that Bodie and Michael originally worked.

The Eastern goes to Cheese's relative, Randy Wagstaff, who's grown up dark and violent in the boys home.

Dukie gets beaten down by the corners, but finds an NA sponsor in Bubbs, who now runs the soup kitchen and actually has an apartment of his own.

Namond grows up strong under Bunny's watchful eye, and returns to the Western as a beat cop under now-Captain Ellis Carver.

And Michael? Michael gets killed by that little boy he let escape from Junebug's house after a hit is ordered by Marlo from inside prison.

I have to remind myself to watch the finale live come Sunday, since it won't be premiering on HBO OnDemand. I'm gonna have my box of tissues ready.
