what is water

waiting for the storm

We just had a lovely thunderstorm actually, and the above haiku was something I saw during my outing earlier.  I'm glad I got my errands done beforehand!

I was working with a funny little dream fragment this morning -- a little bottle of eyedrops.  So I started by asking them what they would say they were, and they said, "I relieve tired eyes."  And what are eyedrops?  They said tree-medicine, salt, water.  (Whatever they actually are made of, that's what they answered when I asked, so that's what I'm working with here.  Bear with the little dreamworker, will yer?)

So what relieves eyes that are weary with seeing?  Tree-medicine, salt, water.  Sounds like "Nature" to me.  Trees, salt for earth or sea, water.  Cleansing, nourishing, bolstering.  Good advice.  If you're tired of seeing what you're seeing, head on out and fill your eyes with some Nature.

But this all led me into rethinking what 'water' is in my dream mythology, and I'm starting to think 'struggle' really doesn't cover it.

It's life.

And yes, life can be a struggle...if you fight against it.  But the more harmonic you are with it, the more you let yourself shine naturally, the less of a struggle it is.  It's like I've read: if you're shining out, the bad stuff can't get in.

Another thing, which today's storm reminded me of: the colours outside always look most vibrant when there has been enough water.  A few years ago we had a very rainy summer and the trees were deliriously beautiful in the Autumn...and we had a rainy Spring here, and the colours were outstanding.

So with water...life.  It may sometimes feel like struggle, but there is no richness, no colour, without it.

:o)
