I'm actually betting that this is an ill-advised way to "thwart" phishing from spam accounts.

The redirect site they're using lets them profit from the redirected clicks, though.

Having just had to stamp out a kind of similar redirect bug on a wordpress I help maintain for work, I'm not 100% convinced this is actually lj's fault.

Wouldn't be surprised either way though. Urgh.
