I hate my Film and Popular Culture course. The professor kind of blows. (Kind of? I say that nicely.) I love film, and I enjoy watching, and writing for film...but when you examine a children's movie, like Dumbo, and are absolutely forced to find some kind of higher meaning in it, it takes the "magic" out of movies. It's not that it's a tall order (you can find a theme in anything if you look hard enough), it's just really, really boring. Blah. And if I can't get through this /one course/ on film, how am I going to get through film /school?/
I love film, and I love art, but I am not very Good at these. But I really, really love words. I like to think I am Good at words. I am going to explore a career in words. This fall, I'm going to take Creative Writing at North Shore. I'm trying to decide whether to take it in person or take it online. I really, really want to take it in person, and I probably will. Mark Sherf teaches it. I took World Civ 2 with him, and he is the fucking balls. Only problem is, it's in Lynn...I've never been to the Lynn campus before. I have a problem with the Lynn campus for no reason whatsoever. It's rediculous, and I really should take the course on-campus. I don't want to take it online. I want to be engaged, man. en-GAGED.
I wish I was better at languages. I want to learn so many languages. Or just two. Hebrew and Japanese. I could be quad-lingual. English, French, Hebrew and Japanese. That would be cool. (What a fucking pipe dream.)
And for my own reference, a (school-related) to-do list:
--get transcript from Middlesex, send to North Shore
--finish essay portion of Comp 2 CLEP
--finish financial aid process for next semester
--register for Creative Writing course
James Spader is going to be on Conan tonight. And Will Ferrel was on last night. JESUS! I go on Tuesday and I get Matt Dillon, Al Roker and this poser teen punk band known as "Fall Out Boy." ::rolls eyes:: I have no luck. I probably should be thankful just for going at all, but jeez. Figures. I totally need a Conan icon.
The oak pollen count is 2,500 today, and my throat is killing me. I took some non-drowsy loritidine (sp?) tablets. Still waiting for them to kick in. I hope I'm not getting a cold.
I'm writing this as I'm suppossed to be finishing my Lit of the Holocaust final. Ha ha. And the other day, on the bus, I neglected it by writing Starmoon pr0n. Ha ha. Neglecting responsibilities is funny. I really am going to miss this class, though.
New York City turned out to be a really nice break for me. We spent the vast majority of our time in the Times Square/Broadway area. On Tuesday night, right after Conan, we ran back to Broadway and saw Phantom of the Opera. It's almost identical to the movie, but a lot shittier, IMO. Honestly, all I could keep thinking was "fagz0rz." Going to see something as melodramatic as Phantom right after Conan was a wicked bad idear. The woman who played Christine had something wrong with her throat and had to leave after the first act. She looked like she was about 40. Christine was not 40. Gah. I hate when they cast people too old for young roles like Christine and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. It takes me out of the experience. The second Christine wasn't much better. But the woman who played Meg was soooooo cute! She was fucking TINY and definately fit the role of a ballerina. She looked like a tiny Reese Witherspoon. And the dude who played Raoul was good. I approve. ::gives Raoul dude a thumbs up:: How bad do I want to go to London and see Ewan in Guys and Dolls? THIS BAD.
After we got back from New York, we ran down to Providence for the Sting concert. Sooo good. Brand New Day tour was better, but Sting's the fucking man. He could take a shit and I'd oooh and aaah over it. I will admit, I didn't know a lot of the songs he did...a lot of them were from before he was even with The Police, when he was with Last Exit. He opened with Message In A Bottle and closed with Roxanne. No Desert Rose! ::cries:: OMG! And his son's band, Fiction Plane, was the opening act. They are very, very good. His vocals are very reminiscent of his father's. I bought a bunch of tracks of theirs last night off of iTunes. ::nods::
I washed by hair today with Pantene Pro-V and it is nice and soft and smells oh-so good. I believe I shall end this entry here. ::shoves nose in hair::
