Had another of those "failed auth" for three of four days, where LJ wouldn't let me in. This time, though, I didn't freak out and throw things (metaphorically speaking, of course) because it's happened so often that I knew it was temporary. So I just waited a few days and then came back.
I spent some time going over old entries and kinda enjoyed it. So much I had forgotten... It was nice to revisit those days. And then, today's memories on FB were doubly nice on top of it.
Something nice happened at Rotary this morning. During Happy Dollars, Barb Kistler donated $5 (that's a lot; it's usually one or two) in honor of Gary and me, for our work in promoting the club's public image, because of all the places she has shown up in the newspaper (me) and all the nice comments she has gotten on the photos in those articles (Gary). It's true; no one seems to have sent out real press releases, other than for calendar entries, in many years, if ever. And our social networking presence has jumped since I took it over as well. If I were getting paid, I would do so much more, but honestly, it's wearing me out. Not only am I doing Rotary, but I am also doing stuff for my high school, and occasionally (very occasionally, and I'm not even sure why) my own page on FB. So I am pretty much constantly on the computer.
But it's nice to have the respect of people I respect. It is amazing what these people have accomplished, both here in PA and around the world. Seriously. Wow. I take it a lot more to heart than Gary does, but that's no surprise. He talks a good story, but mostly he wants to socialize with his engineer buddies. I want to do good stuff. So we are pretty happy here.
But I still wish we were closer to the kids. Another year or two and I think we will be looking again...
