GRP dressed for synagogue today. But not in his usual dapper way. He wore sneakers, jeans, a madras plaid shirt, and a sports jacket. All of which, btw, is perfectly acceptable at the JHCC, but not his typical style. So I guess it means he is getting more comfortable with being less formal.
After synagogue, and after lunch, I guess he had a nap and then took off the jacket and put on his windbreaker. He wears that almost as a uniform now. And a cap. He likes to wear a cap. He bought a new one. I guess because the dozen or so we gave him (plus the new one that says Green Bay Packers) wasn't enough. So he bought one from the gift shop that says Green Bay Packers in Hebrew. He loves that one.
So he came down and asked me if I needed him to help with anything. Just in time. It was right after we discovered that 85 names had been kicked off the annual dinner mailing list and now we had to send out those invitations separately. So he helped me and Elizabeth with the mailing, and he was happy to be useful. Then he walked to the office with me to mail them. On the way back, someone stopped us.
They greeted each other like old friends. He gave her a big hug and a kiss. She was delighted to see him. When will we see you again? she asked. I realized who she was and introduced myself. He apologized, didn't realize she didn't know me, "This is my daughter-in-law."
"You're Carol Ann, right?" I said?
"Yes," she said. "I've just started working here." She's the new activity coordinator at the Adult Day Center. On Thursday, she played cards with him for a long time, and talked with him, and helped ease him into the program.
A few more words and she was on her way. We continued on down the hall, and GRP turned to me and said, confidentially, "I don't know where I know her from, but she's a very nice lady."
