The only thing I like about my Motorola E398 is its speakers. I think it has the best speakers in the market with its amazing bass vibrations. I could swear that you can really hear the bass if you place the phone on a suitable surface. The vibrations of the phone hits the surface and you can hear the THUMP.
To be honest, I bought the phone after seeing my mum used her Motorola PEBL and thought that I would like the operating system. However I don't. After being opened to the configurable complexity of the Windows Mobile Smartphone operating system, 'down-grading' to Motorola's Symbian OS interface was an irritating experience for me. It's a good phone and all, but it lacked the punch and excitment that Windows Mobile Smartphone brought me. So I went to get a new phone.
Note: The front grey parts on the phone in the pictures is actually white on mine
This is not the O2 Xphone IIm which looks exactly the same. The Dopod 585 (which is coming soon to SG via M1 btw) has two main improvements over its predecessor. The first is the 1.3MP camera over the Xphone's VGA camera (300k pixels). Having a 1GB miniSD card, this allows my phone to be a quick on the go camera that can take pictures up to a resolution of 1280 x 1024. The camera program was better than my E398's in the sense that despite not having built in light, exposure can be increased to accept more light so that pictures in the dark is clearer. The second not as notable improvement is 40-chord polyphonic ring tone over its predeccessor's 32.
The purchase of this phone also marks the start of my support for white products (Apple products still not included... more to talk about later). Generally I am now extremely happy with my phone. I started out with the problem of my ring tone being too soft and being unable to receive incoming files from bluetooth. However, after talking the dealer who sold me the phone, I found out how to solve these issues. Battery life is a great improvement over my MPX 200 and the good news is that they sold me a 'full-pack' which comes with an additional battery with battery charger.
The phone is the same size as my E398. They are like the Yin and the Yang together side by side. And of course, the Dopod 585 is pretty Apple-ish. Even its earphones are white, copying the whiteness of Apple's iPod family out there.
I won't do a full review on this phone as there are many other reviews out there. In general, I just want to say that I am happy with this Windows Mobile phone and look forward to a long working relationship together (no more new phones!!! I Swear!!!).
