::RhumbaToTs:: The importance of having a vision...

Me and my mum met up with navypal for Chinese New Year yesterday and lunch today. Being an 'encik' in the Singapore Armed Forces, he did what all 'Enciks' do best for young officers. He gave me advice and reminded me of something very important which I learnt a long time ago, but forgot since I faced my dumb boss. He told me of a simple exercise/game/lesson which I did participate in a long time ago. Trainees were told to hold and stretch apart few pieces of rubber bands for as long as they can. After a while, the trainees were tired and they slowly and gradually let go, and allowed the rubber bands to go back into its original stage.

Then the exercise was repeated again, however, this time, they were told that the rubber band represented their love ones hanging from a cliff. The moment they let go, this means that their love ones would fall and plummet to their death. Not surprisingly, the trainees this time were able to hold the rubber band apart longer than previously.

What this simple exercise teaches us, is that it is important to have dreams, to have a vision to achieve, to have a target to aim for. Once we have that vision, and the resolution in life to achieve that vision, we will be able to work better and last longer as long as whatever we do brings us closer to that vision. I realized that I have lost the vision for what I want in life. I have forgotten my vision and my purpose in Meilin Camp, and have totally given up on what I want to accomplish simply because I face a small stupid obstacle, my boss. That's why I feel so miserable working there. I don't know what I want to achieve anymore.

Hence, I promise myself right now, that I will no longer lose sight of my purpose nor my vision. And that I will do whatever is in my power to achieve what I aim to for, and not be a loser who runs away upon facing obstacles anymore.
