“Oh, for goodness sake, Ron!”  Hermione finally said, throwing her hands up with frustration.  “For the last time: no!  I will not tell you who asked me to the ball.  Just... drop it, okay?”

“Why?”

Hermione shook her head.

“Please, Hermione?”

She rounded on him then.  “Why’s it of such interest to you, anyway?”

Ron flinched. “No reason.”

Hermione raised her eyebrow.

“Hermione, I - ”

She waited.

“Forget it.  I don’t even care.”

“Ron?”

“Forget it,” he muttered again, sounding embarrassed.  “Just... drop it, okay?”

Hermione smiled as he slouched off.  She wouldn’t forget this.  Not for a long time.
