I can’t quite get the hang of making coffee here. My water boiler is sexy as hell (thanks, Target) and I have amazing whole-bean coffee from Multnomah Village. My mini fridge is even stocked with unexpired cream (not half-and-half) and there’s a box of sugar cubes on top. I just can’t seem to put everything together. I blame the altitude (that’s my newest and most used saying. If anyone coming to Boulder ever asked me for advice, I’d tell them to blame everything on the altitude and bring six or seven tubes of carmex lip balm).

I think I’ve found my permanent niche. I feel really, really good. I’ve had a few amazing highs (literally) and one specific horrific low, but I think I’ve figured my new life out. I know I’ve been smoking too many clove cigarettes and more than my share of bowls. But I’m happy. The tech support here is amazing and so are the black and white cookies at Hardrive (which I’m actually starting to enjoy as long as I’m doing smoothies or register or coffee and not suck making quesadillas WHICH ARE A GINORMOUS PAIN IN MY ROYAL ASS). I feel like I know a lot of people, however indirectly. I have people that I smoke with. People that I eat with. People that I work with. People who I’ve traded cigarettes with. People who recognize my red furry coat and lip ring (which I love and is almost completely healed). People who recognize me from Hardrive. People who I know from Roma. So many people. The best part is that I still have my wonderful friends at home - Anna Banana, my rock. AJ, my cheerleader. Allison, my love. Distance really does make the bond grow stronger.

And, I’m starting to get that warm-n-fuzzy feeling of “home” when I get back to Kitt West after work or coffee with whoever or any of my classes (which are all one big joke. If anything OES told me was true, it was that freshman year of college is some easy shit). It’s a good thing.

An even better thing is that I’m getting my Portland tattoo tomorrow. I am absolutely ecstatic. I can’t think of a more fantastic way to spend my first paycheck.
