But I took the day off...

At the beginning of every year I get a packet from my son's school PTA. It's got handy things like donation requests and "Spirit Swag" order forms. It also has a list of the activities for which they ask for parent volunteers. I normally disregard this list. Unlike a good number of the mothers I've met, I have to *sound trumpets* work for a living. I don't get to opt to take a part time job. "You know, to get out of the house for a bit since the kids are in school now."

I show up every day for 8 hours, 5 days a week and thank them heartily for underpaying me just enough to keep my child fed with reduced price lunches.

This year, however, I decided I'd show up and surprises the sneering "room mothers" that always ask me why they don't see me around school. I located one of the few one day volunteer activities on the list and signed my name by it. I recall looking at it more than once October 16, 2007- BIKE RODEO. I made a copy of it for my boss so that she would know why I was asking for this random Tuesday off. I requested the day off in August. As soon as I signed the form.

Well imagine my surprise to find that they changed the date of this bike rodeo. Imagine finding that they didn't send anything out saying they were going to change the date. They didn't contact the people volunteering to say that they were changing the date. The just decided to change it. They'll contact me later to tell me when it will be held and could they still expect my help. What tha?!?! But I took the day off! And you people are notorious for calling the night before to say "Hey we're doing something. Be there!" like I can just tell my boss, "I've decided I'm not coming in today." And if by some miracle I do get forewarning about the event, how am I going to request another day for the SAME REASON!! "Oh yeah, that rodeo at my kids school...didn't happen...but it is happening next week." Beautiful people...just beautiful.

PTA moms are beginning to really irk me.

pta, the boy, work
