GAMES ARE SATAN AND THE CAUSE OF EVERYTHIGN BAD IN OUR SOCIETY INCLUDING CRACK, EVERY KIND OF DRUG, MURDER, AND ANY OTHER KIND OF EVIL YOU CAN THINK OF BECUASE WE ARE TO LAZY TO ACTUALLY FIND THE REAL CAUSES OF THESE THINGS!!!

This story is going to get the limelight and put the entire industry under the magnifier just because it's a game. If the parents got wasted at a party or stonned for the same time period it would shift to page 8 in the news paper and be forgotten in a week.
Peh. As much of one as like...practicing your violin intensely, or reading a good book is. It's not mind-*altering* is what I mean. If your mind's just that retarded to start with (they could have just dropped off the kid upstairs!), well, fucked.
Oh...it alters. I cried in joy to the first time the Halo 2 hymn played Christmas morning, same with the BF2 opening video. Games have the ability to be just as if not more altering to a persons personal experiences as any drug...just dont try and blame your actions on it (I take the same stance with drugs and alcohol. You CHOSE to drink or get high, YOU are responsable.)
You do *choose* to drink or get high, but while in that state, you are scientifically fucked up. You literally can't think straight or rationally.
People can play choose to play video games and be perfectly aware of other things. It is *not* mind-altering. That's like saying any state of concentration on a specific thing is mind-altering.
You have no idea what you're talking about regarding games, and it's even worded wrongly. Playing games is addicting and mind-altering. Take it from people who play them. They are also a lot like other hobbies that require concentration, though it is much easier to lose oneself in a game than painting something. They are nowhere near as dangerous as drugs though, and shouldn't really be compared with them.
Jesse, it's not like I've never touched a video game. (Or overplayed it. *cough* Warcraft 2 *cough*). But a lot of things are addicting, if you have the appropriate personality. And I know games may be easier to lose yourself in then, say, painting, but it really depends on the person.
And aside from that, my *point* is that drugs/alcohol are *not* a comparison to video games, because those actually *scientifically* alter your *brain*. Do we have to really go on about what "mind-altering" is?
I mean, picturing someone's mom naked could be mind-altering. :P

At least if you're drunk/on drugs when you're away, you can explain how you lost track of time because of your mental state.
This is just pathetic.
