Wow, That's A Mouthful
After realizing that the Tooth Fairy will never leave enough cash to make dental care free, and realizing that my insurance will only cover so much, I decided to take a cold, hard look at my dental insurance and how much this dental debauchery is going to cost.
I used my insurance company's handy dandy online cost estimator. I entered my zip code into the search engine, then found the estimates for four fillings, one crown and one mouth guard, and then I added the cost of this dental debridement I'm getting, which isn't covered by my insurance at all. Holy Molar, Batman! This is going to cost me an estimated $1722, and that's with insurance.
So kids, forget everything you learned in elementary school. All those filmstrips of Dudley The Giant Tooth having a friendly talk with the dentist will not have the same effect of showing how much it costs when you neglect your teeth. I'd sell a kidney to help pay for it, but I don't think I could afford the hospital care required for that.
Edited to fix the estimated cost. The website calculated the estimated cost including the insurance, not just the estimated cost of each procedure. Blood. I'll sell my own blood. Anyone in the market for prime O+?
