A review of February 2009

Feb 22, 2009 17:08

February hasn't been a good month. I was horribly sick for the first few days with a stomach bug. At the same time, there was a reshuffle of management and a new duty roster for my team, but our line manager fell ill and was off for a fortnight, leaving Keith, the new staff officer, to muddle through on his own. Mary moved to payroll, and now Karen will be going there too, so we've got a new team member to train. Meanwhile, the auditors have come in and caused no end of havoc, what with demanding information which we don't have, locking us out of our own systems, having problems with logins, and making changes to our working practices which has screwed up how we run reports and trace payments. My probation year ends just as the economy goes into meltdown and transfer opportunities are unlikely in the foreseeable future. I haven't been sleeping solidly and all month I've had a high-pitched pain sitting just above my eyebrows, fading in and out of notice but never completely gone. I keep forgetting to call the health centre to renew a prescription I need. Birds of Prey and Nightwing ended. I haven't made the progrees I wanted on Company of Ravens. I'd love to take a holiday, but I don't want to use my leave so close to the start of the year; there's a flurry of public holidays coming up from March to August, after all, and last year I kept most of my annual leave for the winter months, as a relief from getting up on dark, cold mornings.

Perhaps the only bright spot in this whole month has been getting broadband :-/
