Today's politically inspired rant brought to you by the letter B

B is for Body Armor. It is the tough material which, when placed upon the torso of a brave American soldier sent overseas to fight a stupid, stupid war, will stop the bullets that would otherwise kill him or her.

The US Army hasn't supplied this armor in sufficient quantities to give to every soldier in Iraq. In response to this, what did the American people do? As communities, supporting their young men and women, many areas pulled together and pooled the large quantities of money (I believe somewhere in the high hundreds or even over a thousand) in order to protect our soldiers, since our government is unable to do so.

Today on the news I heard that the Pentagon is no longe allowing body armor which wasn't issued by the army to be used by soldiers. They cited the possiblity that it was not up to spec as the reasoning for this move.

Am I the only one who has a big "WTF" flash through my brain when I hear this? If they'd outfitted our soldiers in the first place, we wouldn't have people doing BAKE SALES to make sure our people don't die in their little spitting match. And now they're saying that the armor that love bought might be less safe than the lack of armor they would rather have them in?

*sigh* Also the Pentagon apparently did a secret study that showed that 80% of those killed by upper body wounds in the war would have survived with body armor.

Bad government. No cookie for you.
