It's unquestionable that supply for the Nintendo Wii is less than demand. Some people think it's a fabricated shortage, but there were reports late last year that Nintendo likely lost as much as a billion in sales for the fiscal year due to the shortage. That doesn't sound like something a company would opt for in the name of keeping the limelight on them.
Then there comes this:
http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8912&Itemid=53 Super Smash Brothers Brawl will only be shipping a tiny fraction of PREORDERS at launch, much less have any copies on shelves. This isn't a complex machine with a long supply chain involved. It doesn't have high costs for manufacturing facilities, and shipping is not a real problem. There's absolutely no way they underestimated demand to this extent; SSBB has been one of the three "big deal" non-launch titles for the Wii since before the Wii hit the market (the other two being Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3). So what's the deal here? I can only assume that in this case, Nintendo HAS to be deliberately under producing the title, and if they are, who's to say that at least some measure of the Wii shortage isn't also manufactured?
