Another true story:

I went to that same 7-11 gas station to get my huge bottle of water (I get the 1.5L bottles) and some peanuts when I ran into an old man. He was inside the store and he had just ended a conversation with the clerk behind the counter that I couldn't hear. "Excuse me miss, but I just pushed my van all the way here when it ran out of gas a while back and I realized all I have is forty cents. Could you help me, please?" he asked me. "I'm telling you the god's honest truth." I smiled at him and nodded. "Sure, I can give you five bucks in gas. Will that be enough to get you home?" I said. He put his hands up. "I only need a gallon," he told me. "And I can give you this here flashlight as payment. Lifetime gurantee. All you gotta do is shake these here batteries and it charges up. Works like a charm." I laughed and shook my head, swiping my card to get the gas for him. "No thank you. Just drive safe, okay?" I said.

He headed out and put gas in his van as the clerk scoffed at me. "You shouldn't've done that," she chided me. "Them people ain't never gonna learn." I didn't dignify her with an answer. I took my bag and headed to my car. I saw his van - it was a church van for handicapped children.

And the clerk told him she wouldn't help him, even with a gallon of gas to get home.
