Maiden Istana visit

Feb 24, 2007 14:34

I am proud to say that Ben and I were part of the 26,000+ people to visit the Istana over the Chinese New Year break last Tuesday! Despite initial anxieties about the snaking queues at the 2 checkpoints and the sweltering humidity of the afternoon sun, the day turned out just about perfect. It was initially humid because it was threatening to pour, which led to our purchase of a bright orange 'Istana umbrella', which in turn led to several attempts at taking a singing-in-the-rain-type photo, which attracted several bemused glances from other fellow visitors to the Istana. The Istana grounds are seriously quite huge and the grass was so neatly manicured many of us (namely Ben) could not resist taking off our shoes/slippers to feel the grass. Couldn't help feeling a little LC there for a while, but it was worth it! There were also lots of kids rolling down the small hills of the Istana gardens and families, couples enjoying the shade beneath the many trees that peppered the landscape. I think we spent a good 2hrs in the Istana grounds before topping the visit off with salami and cheese from the Carrefour next door.
