I still think it was my Mom's fault, exposing me at such a young, impressionable age to Sean Connery and James Bond. I love spies. I love spy shows and movies. It doesn't matter that usually they've got some...unrealism. (I did say Bond, after all.) In fact, give me a particular mix of elements and make them spies, and I am just about guaranteed to love it. For instance, I particularly love blue eyed, dangerous, gorgeous male spies, and/or (but preferably and) kick ass spy girls. Sydney Bristow is so much better than any Bond girl.
So, it comes as no surprise that I'm totally loving the new USA show, Covert Affairs. At first, I was all "It's not Alias." But Annie is a brand new spy, where Sydney came to us already experienced and all kinds of awesome. Annie is learning, but in the meantime, she's relying on talent, untested training, and guts...and I like her. I like that she's not perfect, and she just tries really, really hard. She doesn't have Spy!Daddy (*sniff*), but she has a deadly ex-boyfriend who would kill people for her (and already has). (AND he has blue eyes! I mean, is it any wonder I'm so there??)
Last night's ep was particularly good, I thought. Great guest stars, new insight and depth into Jai, and new movement on the mysterious Ben Mercer storyline, plus we got to see him be an actual badass worthy of the agency's attention and whatever elaborate scheme they've put together to draw him in using Annie.
Oh, and Auggie is awesome. The face off he had with the lie detector guy two eps ago was awesome. The fact that he's a total ladies man is awesome. He's just....awesome. And I've got a purely on-the-spot speculation right now, that at some point we're going to find out when Auggie was a field agent, he worked with Ben, or they were friends, or whatever. Because Auggie was totally a badass in the field, and it kills him to be riding a desk now. I bet they ran totally black ops, kick ass missions together, back in the day. Hmmm. That almost feels like a plot bunny...
No, no. I have book to write. No fic. *le sigh*
Still, I am loving the show!
