Finally, a snippet I can post. Still has mild spoilers, but it won't give anything away if you've read very many of my pirate posts.
“So,” said the other woman when Mercy caught up. “Reaper.”
“What about him?”
Ava shrugged, deliberately casual.
“Is he as good as he looks? I’ve always been curious. Carmen said a lot of shit a few years back, after Reaper wouldn’t fuck her again. But that’s Carmen. She can be a real bitch, and that’s when she’s being nice.”
Thrown, Mercy considered and discarded several responses. She didn’t make it a habit to discuss the men she slept with. But she could see why it might be a topic of great interest to the women here. Her gift told her Ava’s question was, if a bit on the crass side, sincere. And, she decided, Carmen was definitely a bitch. So…
“Reaper-” She hesitated as the shuttle came into view, and lowered her voice. “Let’s just say I’m not entirely sure I’ll ever get over it.”
“Meaning?”
Mercy turned and met her eyes. Slowly, Ava grinned.
“Damn, I knew it!”
“Knew what?” asked Ghost curiously, as they came within range of the shuttle.
“Nothing,” said Mercy with a bland smile.
“Girl talk,” said Ava. She gave Ghost an insolent look as she swept past. “I’ll get the shuttle prepped.”
“So,” said the other woman when Mercy caught up. “Reaper.”
“What about him?”
