I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday. Ours has been fantastic, I have to say. (Other than a mishap with the prime rib I made for my in-laws Friday night, because I'd never used her oven before. The prime rib was awesome, but the au jus didn't turn out so well cause the carrot/onion/celery ended up scorched. *sigh* However, the prime rib I made for my family last night turned out perfectly. :)
My sister loved the jewelry I made her. I'll post pics on BL later. :) My Mom loved her coffee pot (a drip model that actually brews at the proper temp - very hard to find, believe it or not.) Shawn (my brother-in-law) loved his pipe. It's always good when everyone is happy with the gifts you bought them.
I also gave my mother the first 77k of my NaNo project. She didn't want to to wait for it to be done.
The only truly bad moment came when my sister tried to cut her finger off with a chef's knife. Yes, seriously. (Kind of, she didn't really try, but it happened.) We almost took her to the emergency room on Christmas Eve, but Mom looked at it and her vote kept us home, but making a run to the store for tape, gauze, neosporin, and bandaids. She has for sure lost that nail, but by the end of the night, her finger was looking better. It didn't go down to the bone, just really deep into muscle. If it looks bad tomorrow, she'll go to the doctor. Mom knows all, when it comes to such things.
The Pomengranate (sp?) martinis she made helped with the pain. :) Also, they were excellent. I got the recipe from her for future use.
I received several cool things for Christmas this year. My favorites being:
A Pfaff Hobby 1142 sewing machine. I am going to learn to sew, so L and I can make more things together. From everything I can gather, it's an excellent sewing machine for a beginner like me. It can sew through anything that'll fit under the foot (so I've been told) comes with an automatic button hole maker than also sews the button on for you, and a needle threader. L is jealous already, and she hasn't even seen it yet. I am so excited to use it. I've done everything with L (cutting out patterns, pinning, hand sewing) except the actual sewing part, so this is the natural next step.
I also received a complete Lindstrom Rx set of pliers/tools for jewelry making! Oh, they feel so comfortable in my hands. I am going to try them out today. I'm really hoping the chainmailling won't cramp my hands after several hours with these, like they do with my $16 pliers. It's a toss up which gift I like best, these, or the sewing machine.
The biggest surprise gift? A copy of the leatherbound Absolute Sandman.
kistha , it's absolutely gorgeous. I'll try to remember to bring it with me in June, if you don't acquire a copy of your own. I really hope they produce the other issues (this is only the first 20) in future editions.
I got some other stuff here and there, but those three are my favorites, hands down. Oh, I almost forgot, my sister got me two books on chainmailling that are awesome looking. I've been eyeing one of them for awhile, but haven't ponied up the cash. I never even thought to put it on ym list, but she just knew, psychically or something, and got it for me anyway. I'm off to go and play with my new tools and new books. :)
Hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and I'll catch up on the f-list tomorrow.
