I’ve been back at work since yesterday. I am getting into the swing of things but I am a little slower due to increased eye strain. I can feel my eyes trying to work and focus differently than they are used to. I have what the ophthalmologist described as “functional vision”, meaning I can drive and function with it, but he said I will get that “wow factor” in about a month. I do see better than without my contact lenses before surgery, but I’m not at the final result yet. It varies day to day. Today things are much sharper than even yesterday (so far) but my eyes are a lot drier today. Yesterday I had to lean closer to my computer screen quite a lot and by the end of the day I had eye strain.
I am going to take my glasses in to have the lenses exchanged for non-prescription anti-glare lenses to help me with driving at night. Day time is fine but I get a lot more glare from lights at night. It should pass in time. I had three types of prescription drops to put in several times a day plus lubrication drops while recovering and had to set alarms and timers to remember to take them on time and to space them apart correctly. I am now down to one medicated drop and lubrication drops. I had to buy more lubrication drops yesterday and they were a bit expensive for over the counter eye drops, and I noticed they had an anti-theft sticker on them. Do people typically steal eye drops? That just seems odd.
Things get a little sharper temporarily after I use the drops. The medicated ones I still use and will have to continue to use for a few weeks are my least favourite of the ones I was given. About five minutes after using them I get a really horrible taste at the back of my throat. It is disgusting and too strong to ignore. Despite how long I’ve been using them I cannot adapt to the taste of them and I have to suck on some candies or throat lozenges to overpower the taste. They should have warned me about that.
Yesterday was also my first ballet class since before my surgery. I was surprised how much flexibility I had; I thought with two weeks of no physical activity I would have trouble with my splits, but my muscles were quite loose and there was very little strain. Perhaps it was because I hadn’t been sitting at a desk for two weeks. I would probably be a lot more flexible if it were not for my day job.
Anyway, back to work.
