Oh, our crazy house drama.
Yesterday, after eight months of waiting for our foreclosure papers, we found out that our house was seized and sold some time ago, and we're now dealing with CMHC regarding the shortfall. After all, I highly doubt that they were able to sell our mobile home, rotting floorboards and possible carpenter ants and all, for the $95000 that our mortgage had ballooned into when last I checked.
This led to much stressed-out flailing from Jaci, who was imagining anything from her wages being garnished to police helicopters showing up to haul her off to debtor's prison. Even knowing that we don't have those in Canada. What can I say? I have a gift of worst-case-scenarioism. I'm pretty sure that at one point, I was certain that they were going to send Cthulu after me. Even though we were just doing what the bank told us, and we'd never even heard of CMHC before yesterday, and certainly never heard from them, and...yeah. Everything else wrong with that scenario.
Today, we got a call from the above mentioned company, and the lady on the phone indicated that at this time, there are no plans to pursue the claim against us for the amount outstanding. Although, she did say that the file came into their office in February, and two months isn't very long in their office. Soooo, if they do decide to pursue it, it won't be for about another six months.
This means that if they do, we still have six months to save money for our eight months in bankruptcy, and if they don't, we might be able to squeak by without declaring at all, providing our credit card companies aren't fed up with our ditching their calls by this point and are still willing to work out a payment plan with us. Which really, I could hardly blame them if they were beyond the work something out option. It has been rather a long time.
But worst case scenario, we're doing exactly what we were planning to do before, except this time it's with CMHC instead of BMO. O...kay, I think I can handle that.
Bit I still have one burning question regarding all of this: who the heck was stupid enough to buy our old house? I mean, besides us. XD
