I ran outside just now, in the pouring rain, to rescue a pot of Swiss chard. Yes, apparently I am just a little obsessed with my garden. Just a teensy bit.
But, see, the chard almost drowned already. In two separate thunderstorms. Out of all the Swiss chard seeds I originally planted, only one seedling is still standing, and two more look like they’re trying to stand upright. So when it started pouring a little while ago, I opened the back door and was presented with a mini Niagara Falls coming off the roof overhang. I ran out anyway. I moved the pot to a drier place under the patio chair and ran back in the house. It’s just… the poor thing is trying so hard to survive! I couldn’t just let it drown again. I don’t think it would make it at this point.
I actually have over a month’s worth of garden reports that I plan on putting up. Um, soon, I hope. I’m debating on whether to post them all as backdated entries and then do a post to link to all of them, or divide them into a few big posts. I don’t want to spam my flist, especially about my garden, which I don’t know if anyone is actually interested in hearing about, y’know?
But not right now. Right now I have to brave the thunder and lightning and go to the grocery store, because other than a handful of veggies I’ve picked from the garden (two zucchinis, two cherry tomatoes, a pepper, and three jalapenos), there is no food in the house.
