Went to the farmer's market this morning, even though it is cold and wet and nasty outside. There weren't very many vendors there, which was to be expected-- the cold snap has ruined a lot of farmers' budding fruit crops, which breaks my heart.
All I was really looking for was breakfast before I had to come into school to meet a student. Just a cup of coffee and hopefully one of those amazing breakfast tamales from the Harvest Lodge or whatever it's called. They weren't there alas, but I did end up shopping, for the win:
1 lb organic fair trade Sumatra coffee, roasted locally and ground for me right there at the booth. I got to try a sample first, and even without anything added to it, it was amazing (which, considering that I do not drink coffee without some kind of cream and some kind of sweetener, is high praise indeed.)
2 bags organic salad greens-- one is a mix of different butter lettuces, and the other is arugula.
1 dozen duck eggs, from the guy who sold me my blueberry bush years ago. I asked him if there was anything I needed to know about using duck eggs that might differ from chicken eggs, and he gave me quite a bit of advice (apparently they're higher in protein, which makes them a little stiffer/stickier/harder to beat, but they add extra loft to baked goods). Then he told me to let him know what I did with them and how it worked, and he's the sort of person who actually means stuff like that. He's really nice.
Happy cup o'French Roast from Bfoods
Honey-rosemary scone from Bfoods... oh my god, it was the most amazing thing ever. Like summer on my tongue.
