I like the mental correction from Earth That Was to Earth That Is, reinforcing just for a moment that they're very far away from home. Different timelines and galaxies and dimensions are too big to really make an impact; a tea bag is simple enough to knock you sideways.

Your Jayne feels just right here- I like that he recognizes that there's no shame in being afraid of something as bad as Reavers. And that last line is far too true.
