author’s notes: for perfect__denial, because i promised her sernando the other day and wrote emo!la selección instead. ugh, i swap tenses and points of view like i swap textbooks, so apologies on that. just can't stick to the rules! also, if you're after a mindblowingly amazing sernando au!fic, head on over to jumping_down's lj and read "gasolina" by her. best piece of prose i've read this year.

also, how depressing that there's been no fic here for almost three weeks? i shall force rhetoricwords into posting what she's been working on for you. >:D

there are certain things that people assume about fernando torres and sergio ramos, as a couple, when they meet them. the amount of people knowing their “status” was extremely low, kept to the confines of la selección and occasionally mentioned to the new recruits whenever they arrived. however, they’re not a “couple” in the full sense of the word. yes, they have sex whenever they can, and yes they kiss and occasionally get mushy, and when they get drunk, they tend to forget that they have very steady girlfriends and do silly things in public. but neither of them are gay, nor would they be willing to give up the cushy lifestyle they’ve grown accustomed to- skipping from woman to man is just a pleasurable activity between the two of them, and they are known as exclusively each other’s and that was where it ended.

when people do find out, there are obvious questions that are asked from the beginning. mostly “is sergio as good in bed as he looks?” and “how do you keep him from cheating on you with others?” fernando doesn’t really mind because he knows his team mates are curious (to be quite honest, sometimes he thinks sergio could improve in certain areas, and he doesn’t really believe him when sergio says he doesn’t sleep with the others when he isn’t around). they also think that fernando is the awkward, unsure and hesitant one, when the reality is quite different. fernando had made the approach to sergio, who had choked on his drink and went to escape, but ran instead smack into a wall (david villa maintains it was definitely unfair of fernando to do that, especially on sergio’s first national team call up, and the poor boy was barely eighteen), almost concussing himself and waking a very irritable raúl, who screamed at them all to get to bed before he got his gun and started re-decorating.

after fernando’s extremely unsuccessful attempt to seduce the sevillan beauty, he had apologised and they had spent the next two hours in their room, talking. fernando had been disappointed when sergio only pecked him on the cheek, and had to wait for another two national meet ups before sergio would finally kiss him properly. “i wouldn’t have picked you to be a prude,” fernando had gasped one evening, as sergio had pulled away from attacking his neck with ridiculously puffy lips from their kissing. sergio had smiled, and told him there was lots of things he didn’t know. fernando had felt irritated at the fact that there was lots of things he didn’t know, and badgered sergio until he gave in and told him whatever he wanted to know. by the end of it, sergio was regretting saying anything and fernando was fast running out of menial questions, but listening to sergio talk about anything and everything was…well, special.

another common misconception is that fernando is the doormat in their union. again, further from the truth couldn’t be found. since sergio is younger than fernando, there is a certain amount of respect between them. fernando lets sergio do whatever he wants, but sergio always asks permission before he wants to try something new, and fernando’s chest will always flutter a little bit and his cheeks will get red, and he’ll be greeted with the overwhelming urge to fuck sergio’s beautiful little self into the mattress (nine times out of ten, he complies with said urges).

he also can’t stand it when sergio is upset. if it’s by the hand of someone else, he sees red. once íker ate the last of the plums and sergio tried to mask the fact he had really wanted one. fernando had disappeared for twenty minutes, returning with his wallet considerably lighter, but a bag of plums from the kitchen in hand. another time, sergio and david albelda had fought over something, and fernando had spent an hour doing the single most stupid things he could think of to make sergio laugh. in the end, he had tripped over the bedsheets piled on the floor and almost knocked his front teeth out (again). rolling onto his back, the wind completely blown out of him and his eyes watering at the pain in his nose, the sound of sergio laughing hysterically as he crawled off the bed and onto fernando’s limp body was the best reward of all. of course, when fernando is upset and pouting, sergio disappears and returns with ice cream, loaded up with chocolate topping, or takes him on a shopping spree and buys him fifteen items of clothes - mostly ones with shiny letters or some form of green in them (“it brings out the green in your eyes, niño. trust me on it!”), but always fifteen.

it’s times like that when their carefully constructed lines of not being gay/a real couple and admitting that their feelings are growing a little too fast to be considered healthy are questioned, pushed- probed. not dealing with it is a lot more attractive to both boys, so they don’t. they just keep falling, slowly but surely, their “feelings” deepening a little more each time they see each other (sleep in the same bed, kiss the corner of his mouth in just that right way so he knows he’ll smile and his eyes will crinkle and my stomach will flutter), and their team mates rolling their eyes whenever they staunchly deny it being anymore than friends with extremelyfuckinggood benefits.

~~~FIN.
