basically the best thing in the world has happened.
ann wilson is recording a solo album with a host of collaborators--among them, the exquisite k.d. lang.
and also? elton john, alison krauss, and rufus wainwright. beat
that with a stick.
in other news, i saw a sundog, and i went to thai basil, and i left a defend new orleans flyer on the windshield of a car in the disabled parking lot near the office that has a sign in the window which has a lutheran insignia (and extra subordinate clauses) and the phrase: katrina recovery: it won't be over until the methodists leave! wtf.
the helpdesk went camping, and i played a sort of kumbayah and sang with everyone (or for them, perhaps), and i made them s'mores with vegetarian marshmallow cream. we geocached in the ruins of an old city and sandy thought all the rocks were vortexy. i'm glad i went--usually i worry and anguish on those types of trips but i didn't have to just make it through this one. i'm really grateful for the helpdesk.
and grateful for a break. i'm going to seattle tomorrow. the new helpdesk record keeping application has been driving me nuts. but i think i'm going to washington in august--so that's fuckin' awesome. anyway, i'm excited to spend some time with my brother and with anna and just unwind about things. and today, i decided (did i do that?) to be decisive.
that included going to the city of tempe softball meeting tonight and throwing my name in the hat. the guy at the table said usually managers scramble for girls, so i'll probably get picked up. that's exciting. it wasn't scary until a lady sat next to me. i think she asked me if she could sit here and i said "no, go ahead" because i always translate that question "is this seat taken?" but no one says that anymore. anyway i think she looked alarmed and then relieved and then sat down. when everybody started leaving, she moved (which made sense in other terms, too, because she was sitting right next to me). but anyway.
i went, like that. like the time i went to the book signing, but better.
and last night i had ice cream with prickly pear cactus syrup--so effing good. and now, i pack.
