Of bots, freedom of anonymity, and official sockpuppets.
There's been a flood of LJ spam recently, and I'm really getting tired of deleting random bot comments. So, I'm disabling anonymous commenting.
I'm not very happy about this; I do like giving timid commenters (or even people not on LJ!!) the chance to disagree with me - or curse at me, as the case may be - under the cover of metaphorical darkness. But alas, as is so often the case in good dictatorships, laziness security concerns trump freedom of speech.
At least there are always sockpuppets. In fact, I've just had a brilliant idea: I could create a sockpuppet journal myself and post the password here! Then, anyone who wanted to rail at me anonymously could use the prepared, official sockpuppet. :-) What do you think?
