Yeah... it's a kind of grimy single-note gloominess that is honestly just rather boring to me. Meh.

Karen just keeps getting better. She is also getting more and more plot time, perhaps because some of the creators realize that she is the most interesting character at this point. Foggy needs more development; he hasn't really come into his own yet, but at least there's the sense that he *could*. Some other minor characters could be really good too, IMO.

To me, Matt seems gloomy and single-note exactly the way the rest of the series does. He's drawn in very broad strokes and doesn't seem have any real characterization apart from being Catholic (which, despite what the series seems to think, is not actually a character trait), and possessed of a weird savior complex. I agree that the actor doesn't do a very good job - most of the time his face doesn't seem to convey anything at all beyond some vague heroic manpain.

I don't know whether Wilson Fisk was meant to be sympathetic either. Probably not? But then, what do I know. I really just wanted to know more about Vanessa, and whether she was meant to be a sociopath the way she appeared, and what she truly felt (or didn't feel) for Fisk.

At this point I don't even know whether the viewer is meant to think Matt is a blinkered, self-destructive, hypocritical adrenaline junkie. (Probably not.) I will see whether the last two eps give him the kick in the pants he deserves, or whether it will all just serve to validate him in his chosen role of martyr.

Interestingly, some characters have told Matt off by pinpointing exactly what I think his problems are, but I have no idea whether I'm meant to be seeing it from their point of view. I have the sense that I'm probably meant to view Matt as a Hero, and join him in his estimation of himself as the Admirably Self-Sacrificing Martyr.

(I never read much Daredevil and barely remember anything about it, so I am basically coming into the series with no comic knowledge. Mostly I know Punisher and Kingpin from other series.)
