The State of the Elbow, and: Fandom Meme Procrastination!

My elbow and wrist are still not quite back to normal, but much, much better. Also, I now have very fashionable colored bandages in azure, Prussian blue, spring green, crimson, fuchsia and black. It makes all the difference. :-) Of course, I have not spent my weekend employing my returned ability to be productive in order to be productive. Instead ( Read more... )

Exactly! My glee at wearing a bandage matching my clothes has not worn off yet. :-)

TVD… the first ep was so awful that I wonder how anyone got past it without trouble! It's so incredibly flat and cheesy, and takes itself so horribly seriously at the same time. A bad combination, that. It took the unfolding plot about Katherine's past machinations, the founders' council and all the backstory to get me interested. Even now it's still mostly the backstory and some of the minor characters that interest me. :-)

To be honest, I don't have a lot of respect for the show in terms of characterization or plotting. I just watch it as crack. ;-) Also, in the case of this show I think that too much exposure to fandom would sour me on canon. I don't want to harsh your squee, so suffice it to say that there are characters that - IMO - act in a way that directly contradicts the way they are evidently meant to be (and are) received by viewers. This kind of thing can really annoy me. *g*

Yeah, TW needs a chance to grow on you, and I absolutely understand why it doesn't grow on some people at all. My own interest was only caught by the fact that two minor characters who start out as flat stock characters are slowly revealed to be unexpectedly well-characterized, and not at all what they at first seem to be. I love that kind of thing. :-)

Zines are indeed very cool. The internet is a wonderful thing, but there's still something about printed stories that can't be replaced… and they are simply such a wonderful manifestation of joint fannish effort and interest!
