2.       The morning after...

Ianto was awoken from the tiniest slit in his curtain letting a harsh and very bright morning sun through. He squinted and held up his arm to block the ray from his eyes then rubbed them gently to rid the sleep of them. He looked around to find that he was still on his sofa and covered with a blanket.

Ianto groaned, his headache reminded him that last night had been too much of a quiet night in. He remembered that there was food (the remainder of that stinking out his living room), there had definitely been alcohol and something was watched on the TV, a film maybe? And Jack, whose space on the sofa was now empty. Ianto sighed and got up slowly from the chair as he went into the kitchen to make a strong black coffee.

Jack had come back to his flat after a pretty grubby weevil hunt. They had lost it in the end after it nearly knocked Ianto out and legged it into the local estate, hiding in the alley ways.

Ianto had left Jack to use his shower whilst he ordered food from a local Thai takeaway which was one of the team’s usual choices after a long day at work. Later they had settled down on the sofa, watched a film, ate the food and drank scotch until Ianto must have passed out from exhaustion and alcohol consumption. He looked over to the wall and saw the second hand tick past 7.30am, he was going to be late if he wasn’t careful but his body felt unusually weak and lazy. After taking a couple of aspirin Ianto made his way upstairs to shower and change before leaving for the Hub.

He entered the tourist office at just gone 8.30 and made sure that he carefully shut the wooden door without too much noise so not to aggravate his pounding head. He smiled when he noticed a coffee mug waiting for him on reception. Ianto took off his jacket and went to inspect the mug which was sitting on top of a hand written note.

‘Drink me’ it read.

Ianto laughed quietly to himself and slipped the note into his pocket. He walked around the back of the desk to switch on his computer. The wall at the back of the office opened which made him look up to see whoever was coming in from the secret corridor that lead down to the Hub.

“I thought you might have needed that,” Jack said, pointing to the coffee as he walked into the tourist office.

“Yeah, thanks.” Ianto nodded and took a sip of the coffee with an appreciative hum. It actually tasted pretty good; Jack had obviously been listening to him about how to make a decent cup of coffee.

“How are you feeling?” Jack asked as he lent down onto the desk.

“Terrible,” Ianto said mid sip. Jack chuckled. “How much did we drink last night?”

“You drank at least half a bottle.”

“Is that all?” Ianto asked frowning. That stuff must have been strong to make him feel like he had been hit by several buses.

“You fell asleep before you could drink anymore,” Jack smiled. Ianto groaned quietly as his head continued to thump and his back began to twinge again, he hadn’t slept in a very comfortable position last night.

“I didn’t do or say anything, you know, embarrassing did I?” Ianto asked worryingly.

“Don’t you remember anything?” Jack queried, leaning forward and staring avidly at the more nervous Ianto who was still hiding behind his cup.

“Not really.” Ianto shook his head. There was an unnerving pause until Jack lifted his lips and grinned wildly.

“Relax,” Jack said and smirked as Ianto let out a relieved breath. “You’re actually quite cute when you’re drunk.”

“Tipsy,” Ianto corrected quickly which made Jack grin even more. “What time did you leave?” he asked, putting his cup down and logging onto his computer.

“2ish, I thought I’d let you sleep it off.”

Ianto looked up from the computer screen to him. “You didn’t have to go, you know.”

“I had stuff to sort out here,” Jack said. “Speaking of which, we’re on weevil duty this morning.”

Ianto groaned again. “I was hoping you weren’t going to say that.”

Jack smiled. “I’ll let you finish that first,” he said, gesturing to the coffee before pushing the button under the desk. “I’ll see you in ten,” he shouted back as he went into the corridor.

Ianto downed the last of his drink. If he hadn’t got that little bit drunk last night and fallen asleep before he had the chance to ask, he might have got Jack to stay for once. He was starting to think that it might never happen. Jack always seemed to have a reason to come back here and Ianto was beginning to wonder if it wasn’t just for work purposes.
