My love is returning
After the rash of cesarian sections that plagued me last term, I am happy to report that I have caught two babies in the past week - and it felt GOOD! Amid the surgeries, I had forgotten the sheer pleasure of a warm, fresh baby sliding out into my hands....I'm in love again.
I was starting to feel ambivalent towards midwifery near the end of last term and couldn't figure out why - I was worried that I was going to end up one of those people I feel sorry for, the one that graduates and then realizes they don't like the job. The night before I was due to go back on call last week, I was dreading turning my pager on....this was strange - I usually quite look forward to it.....
I'm glad to know it wasn't anything serious - I'm glad to have reclaimed my love of the job.....
Trust me when I tell you that catching a baby is the BEST feeling in the world.....
