Meme snagged from
biffyhouse , because I couldn't resist.
1. Take five books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred and fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph:
They have said that we owe our allegiance to Safety, that he is our Red Cross who will provide us with ointment and bandages for our wounds and remove the foreign ideas the glass beads of fantasy the bent hairpins of unreason embedded in our minds. There we were, awaiting and peeting away at the old knify moloko, and you had not turned up. One of those children stole, which is a bad sin. For a long time inside the orange fire you can see the black horse shape real clear. "One of us had to accept the agony, " she said, "and he was always the stronger."
1) Faces in the Water-- Janet Frame
2) A Clockwork Orange-- Anthony Burgess
3) The Poisonwood Bible-- Barbara Kingsolver
4) The Liars' Club-- Mary Karr
5) Children of Dune-- Frank Herbert
Well, it seems my little paragraph is rather chaotic/traumatic. Also, I had a bit of deja-vu as I typed out the first sentence and I realized it's because I typed it out here before. The opening of that book is really good. Anyway, 'tis a fun meme. I recommend it to any of you few on my flist. Just grab five random books off your shelf and see what comes of it.
