Al Gore!

I hugged Al Gore tonight! I spent $50 total to sit in the front row of the Chicago Theatre watching him speak about climate change and the American economic crisis and meet him multiple times afterwards. that man is such a witty, engaging speaker. he signed my copy of his book Earth in the Balance, and he took a professional photograph with me.

tonight's will be a short entry, I promise.

at the free-booze-and-desserts reception afterwards, I called out to Al Gore, "Mr. Gore, Mr. Gore! . . . can I give you a hug?" this was on my second glass of wine. I don't drink very much, so you can imagine how glowingly . . . happy . . . I was. he fell for it! and agreed to hug me. a big ol' hug. I felt so special, since I was the only person I saw him hug that night. I thanked him exuberantly for all the wonderful work he does for the cause.

there are other details of that night--lots of laughter, with people like some elderly ladies I caught commenting about how cute Al Gore was, with plenty of people I sat near and chatted with, with strangers who kept commenting multiple times about how sweet I was for not kicking an old lady in the head, etc., etc., etc. but the one detail I'll remember most is the hug I received from Al Gore. AL GORE! Nobel Peace Prize winner! Vice President! Elected President by popular vote! Emmy, Grammy, and Academy Award winner! Holder of millions of other recognitions! (OK, maybe not millions) Environmental activist! and most importantly . . . unshakeable idealist.

he gave me a hug.
wow.
HE GAVE ME A HUG!
