another note: with my brand spanking new permanent livejournal account, I just created a custom mood theme with all of the cards of one of my favorite Tarot card decks, the
Osho Zen Tarot. take a look at my current mood theme, if you will, and admire its beauty. it had been awhile since I've pored through those cards, but I was still amazed at its design.
I've had a Tarot deck collection since about 2001, and Tarot deck art is still one of my favorite forms of art. essentially, each card in the deck represents a different archetype of human existence. Tarot cards are very focused on the conceptual. different decks use different religious signs; premodern, modern, and postmodern ideas; mythological trivia; and secular symbols that sometimes have existed for centuries. what symbols, colors, concepts, and structures of the Tarot system are used in a particular deck (and for a particular card) all depends on the individual artist.
my two favorite Tarot card decks of the 8+ decks I own are the Osho Zen deck and the Dalí deck. The Dalí deck (designed by Salvador Dalí as a custom tarot deck) is much fancier, with gold edges on all of the cards and a velvet box. yet the Osho Zen still holds a special place in my heart after years of owning it.
