Greetings from the Claude Moore Health Sciences library at UVA. We just had a library tour where we got to touch a book from the 15th century and looked at some other old stuff, and have a lecture in half an hour. Today's probably been the most exciting day so far. We had a talk this morning about medical interviews of patients, where a 94 year old woman came in and told us her life story. 94 year olds are cool, yo! And she wasn't even crazy or anything. Her name was Virginia Fisher, and she even sang us a song about giving away your love cause it'll come back to you. And then we had a sing-a-long. After that, an OB-GYN doctor came in and talked to us about childbirth. It was really interesting and informative, and the diagrams of the babies in the uteruses were really cute.
After that I had a half hour break where me and Laura had a battle with a vending machine which wouldn't give change, and I ate a Reeses nutty bar. Then they took a bunch of us for a tour of the anatomy lab, which was the most intense thing I've seen here so far. We watched a bunch of sports medicine masters students dissecting cadavers. The smell was awful, and it was really chilling to see human bodies getting picked apart. But the science of it was really cool. So we did that for 20 minutes or so, popped over to the cafeteria where I picked up an awesome tuna sandwich for $1.74 (yes, I know that you don't need to know my life in this grisly detail), and then went to see the lib.
Played Cranium last night! Great game. I had only played the kids version called Cadoo before, but the "adult" version is better. I discovered that I might have a little bit of ESP, which is fine by me. Maybe it'll help me in the MCATs. oooh, I also had a really good cupcake.
