Dear Yuletide Writer

Nov 16, 2010 23:56

Thank you so very much for participating, and I hope you have a great Yuletide season!

I didn't give much additional information in the request sheet because the new format confuses me I figured I'd go overboard here, and seem to have been correct. Anyway, what do I like, as it applies to these requests? The bittersweet, the tragic, the dark, the downright Byronic, and the hope in spite of everything. If you're playing in any of these three fandoms, I imagine that none of this is going to be much of a surprise. I go for character studies. I'm not a big fan of humour or fluff, but I do appreciate dark wit. I am very much in love with genfic or romantically tinged genfic, and not as big on sexual content as many people are. I do prefer the non-explicit and I'd say to err on the side of subtlety. (Unless you're writing for The Doctrine of Labyrinths -- in that case, anything goes.)

1. Sandman. Morpheus is probably one of my favourite characters ever, in all his epically tragic glory, and I would love just about anything that shows of the beauty of that character. This one's an either/or.

The tag for Titania wasn't available (offend not the Fae, I laugh), but I would love to see Morpheus/Titania. Her words concerning him -- "and as for my memories of the Lord Shaper... I have no desire to share them with any other individual" -- so perfectly say everything and yet nothing at all. I've always loved the idea of the Faerie Queen and the Dreamlord -- strange and wondrous and mad and probably saner than any of his other romances, if only because they're probably both dangerous in rather similar ways.

Otherwise, I'd love to see what sort of relationship might build up between Daniel and Hob Gadling in the future, and perhaps how it might contrast with Hob's former relationship with Morpheus. (Please keep this one platonic.) Anything that mixes tragedy with a glimpse of shining hope will make me happy in this fandom, and feel free to have just about anyone cameo. Especially other Endless.

2. Doctrine of Labyrinths. I think what I enjoy most about this series is its voice. I was considering requesting just Kay, because the angst Elizabethan tinged English thrills me, I am not even kidding, but then I remembered that Felix's voice is just as delicious. And then I realized I wouldn't be happy without Murtagh too. Feel free to add Mildmay as well, but please don't slash him.

So Sarah Monette said here that Murtagh really did have a thing for Kay and was lucky he never found out (not to mention Kay's sister). I'd... love to see him find out and... figure out how to deal with it. Murtagh/Kay would be lovely, though if it won't work, that's fine too. A side of Murtagh/Felix would be fantastic (going to go back on my "subtle" request earlier and say I'm comfortable with anything found in the book with these two). And if Felix/Kay is your thing, go for it.

3. Malazan Book of the Fallen. I requested Cotillion and Ammanas, because they're kind of awesome and Cotillion in particular is a favourite. I love every scene in which they interact: Ammanas's madness against Cotillion's subtle brilliance. More than okay with either slash or gen, though with these two, a very subtle slash would probably be most appreciated. But that's up to you.

Another thing I'd be happy to receive (couldn't make multiple requests in a fandom and she wasn't an option anyway) would be Anomander Rake/Lady Envy, so if that calls to you more, feel free to ignore the character requests and do it instead. And don't hesitate to add in Osseric or anyone else in the old gang, if you want.

yuletide, public
