Eh-hem

Oookaaay, so it's been a month. Let's review what the hell I've been up to since the last time I wandered onto LJ.

1. Previous position eliminated, but we already knew this...

2. My last day turned out to be my first day in a different department. This is a good thing--and not just bc it's a job. This is the job I have been searching for. I'm completely serious. I can't believe how incredibly lucky I was. The guy in the position had to go back to his home country, so it left an openning that they decided would not be closed. So, TPTB worked w me and the section heads to make this a transfer instead of a layoff/rehire. Yay for me, I got a big pay increase and different classification (professional/salary v. hourly). And holy crap! the experience is phenominal! It's molecular and microbiological diagnostics, which is closer to my background than chemistry (thank god), and the people are so fantastic it isn't even funny. So far, in the four weeks I've been there (actually three bc I was on vacation for one of them), I've learned four different tests and a few other processes in between. In the six months I was in Chemistry, I did zero anaylitcal tests and only prepped (by myself w. no direction needed) for one. I think that was the most frustrating thing for me: a glorious waste of time and my brainpower to do a student's job. But w/e, I knew going into it that this would serve as a foot-in-the-door situation and look how it turned out...

Back to my original statement: this was a GOOD thing, an unbelievably great oportunity. Funny how things work out, eh?

3. I went on vacation. The timing was mostly dictated by a cousin's wedding, but the fam's been due for a getaway for a while now. We spent a few days in Boston (great, great city) and drove down to the Hartford area for the rest of the week. Damn, that wedding was gorgeous, in a church from the 1600s! God, I love New England. I was tempted to stay...

4. Moved into my apartment on the first of the month. It's a helluva lot nicer than the last place. I even get a garage, and right outside the back door/porch is a pond with a fountain. It's pretty sweet...

5. A month is a very long time, but at the moment I can't think of anything else to share.

In the next two weeks I hope to settle more into my place, get things organized and situated, and then I will be able to spend more time with writing and posting and making pretty icons (which I'll start posting to here as well). Dang, there's no way I'm gonna catch up with all that I've missed...anyone up for a highlights reel?

Laters.
