Last weekend, as I may have mentioned, I finally finished unpacking all my boxes from my move back home from college. These boxes had been sitting in storage at my parent's house waiting patiently for my return. Now my bookcases are filled, my CD's alphabetized, and my wall decorations hung.
Since this has been completed, I have been offered and

On the other hand, moving sucks. When my husband finished residency, we found a community where we wanted to live, bought a house, and intend to leave only for that final move in the pine box. I'd lived in something like 21 different residences by that point in my life, and I was done moving. So was he. Of course this means that the kids will have to deal with a lifetime's accumulation of junk, but I guess that will be their problem. They can always sell the house as is if they can't bear to deal with it all, right?

It's funny, just yesterday my dad was talking about how he and my mom have had over 40 addresses since they've been married (over 30 years, the first three of which he was in the Marine Corps) and how much stuff gets dragged along each time.
Of course, the five years I was in college I've moved in and out of university housing or apartments at least ten times (in and out, back and forth). OMG, I am soooo ready to settle down (holy shiz, did I really just say that??). Anyway, whatever, I'm way past caring at this point, lol, I just want to move on with my life and having a job was just the ticket.

I'd had all those addresses and my parents are professors. Divorced (double the houses!) who moved often, although my Dad's had tenure and taught at one University from the age of 30 until he retired not too long ago.
And you won't believe the amount of junk that my kids will be dealing with. I'm a pack rat, and a few years ago I came across a 3x5 card that had "Are these yours? -Dad" scribbled on it. He'd sent it too me with a pair of socks
WHEN I WAS IN COLLEGE! That convenient fire in the attic might not be such a bad idea... ;)

And when you were in college, that's funny. I think I found a box that had receipts from a hardware store near the Twenty-Nine Palms base from 1976! Oh man, I'm like, "Uh, hey Dad, you still need this receipt? Think you might still want to do the return?"
But I can't throw anything out either. I have this weird fear that as soon as I do I might need it. Whatev, I'll just have to look for bigger places in the future :)
